Old vs New: "Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop in T2 Trainspotting

T2 Trainspotting relies heavily on nostalgia, evoking scenes and memories from the first film. It often juxtaposes the old with the new, and this can be noticed on its soundtrack. Danny Boyle deliberately combined classic hits from the previous century with contemporary UK rock bands (Wolf Alice's "Silk" fades out in the first few seconds of the clip). In the ending of T2, Renton puts on Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life", the song the first film started with. However, it is not exactly the same: it is a remix by The Prodigy. Old and new values clash on several scales here: it's a nostalgic reference to an old beginning, but the remix provides a fresh, new take on it. Furthermore, The Prodigy have been active for almost thirty years, so their version can be thought of as old making old look new.
