Old vs New: "Sexy and I Know It" in The Young Pope

In Paolo Sorrentino's The Young Pope, Jude Law plays Pius XIII, the youngest pope ever to be elected the head of the Catholic church. He is a controversial character: his views are an odd mixture of revolutionary aspirations and stubborn conservatism, sparking many conflicts with the cardinals. Like in his previous films, Sorrentino features classical music as much as contemporary electronica and dance on the soundtrack. The eclectic choice of songs opposes old values with the new, also reflecting Pius's often self-contradictory views. This scene stands out as one of the funniest moments in the show, as the pope gets dressed for a speech, while LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" plays. The song also renders the sequence quiet uplifting, as the revelation of the papal tiara concludes an important plot point.
